Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested Evaly Chairman Shamima Nasrin and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel in connection with multiple cases filed against them.
According to police sources, a team from the Detective Branch (DB) arrested the two from the Dhanmondi area of the capital late on Tuesday night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station Saiful Islam confirmed the development, saying the police station had been informed of the arrests carried out by the DB.
DB officials said that more than 200 arrest warrants have been issued against Shamima Nasrin and Mohammad Rassel in cases filed with Dhanmondi, Kafrul and Savar police stations. Of these, over 100 warrants are linked to cases filed with Dhanmondi Police Station alone.
The Evaly executives had earlier been arrested on September 16, 2021, from their residence in Mohammadpur on charges of fraud and embezzlement.
Shamima Nasrin was released on bail in April 2022, while Mohammad Rassel secured bail in December of the same year.
Further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
