Zaima on Monday night said a recent discussion platform marked the beginning of a future where women across Bangladesh—regardless of geography, background or generation—are not only included but trusted and empowered to help shape the country’s next chapter.
In a Facebook post, she described the event as an important space for collective learning and advocacy, expressing hope that more such platforms would continue to open up.
Zaima said she was honoured to share the stage with economist Dr Fahmida Khatun, BRAC Chairperson Tamara Abed Hasan and Standard Chartered Bangladesh CEO Rupali Chowdhury, thanking them for their insights and leadership.
She also highlighted the significance of engaging with accomplished women from diverse sectors, naming Sumaiya Arju Muhu, Syeda Anannya Faria, Dr Halida Hanum Akhter, Tanzina, Monica Chakma, Afroja Mukta and Mamunur Rashid Efti.
A special mention was made of Sadia, a student from BRAC University’s law department, for raising what Zaima described as an “in-depth and important question” during the Q&A session, noting the importance of young women asking critical questions in society.
Zaima thanked moderator Kazi Jesin for steering the discussion and acknowledged Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury for engaging in dialogue and outlining policy perspectives on several issues raised during the event.
Emphasising the broader message of the discussion, Zaima said progress depends on listening, continued dialogue and engagement, even when perspectives differ.
She noted that women are already leading Bangladesh but stressed that belief in women’s empowerment must now be translated into consistent action.
“Empowerment cannot remain limited to speeches or policies; it must be reflected in our homes, workplaces and institutions,” she said, adding that this responsibility cannot be carried by women alone.
Calling on men, leaders and decision-makers, Zaima said support must be measured through sustained action rather than intention, underscoring that systems must be shaped collectively to build the future Bangladesh aspires to.
