Islami Andolan Bangladesh Joint Secretary General and party spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman has expressed concern over the rising number of unclaimed bodies in the capital, saying it reflects the alarming state of law and order in the country and calls for more proactive measures by authorities.
In a statement today, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman said that in 2025, a total of 643 unclaimed bodies were buried in various cemeteries across Dhaka, averaging nearly 54 unidentified burials per month. The figure is higher than in 2024, when 570 such burials were recorded.
According to the latest statistics from the police headquarters, 4,732 murder cases were recorded nationwide between September 2024 and December 2025.
“Repeatedly, we have called for sincere and strong measures to improve law and order,” Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman said. “But the government’s response appears inadequate. People primarily seek security, and when the state fails to provide it, its credibility is undermined.”
He also warned that with election campaigns set to begin soon, national leaders and party workers will be travelling to rural areas. “Authorities must ensure their safety as well as that of the general public. Without effective security, the vision of a peaceful and festive election cannot be realised,” he added.
