A fire set at the central office of Udichi Shilpigosthi in the capital on Friday evening has been brought under control, according to the Fire Service.

Udichi alleged that a group of miscreants set fire to its office a day after a similar arson attack on cultural organisation Chhayanaut on Thursday night.

The Fire Service said it received information about the blaze at around 6:45pm at Udichi Shilpigosthi’s Central Council office on Topkhana Road. Four firefighting units were dispatched to the spot and managed to control the fire.

Udichi General Secretary Jamshed Anwar Tapan claimed that the fire was set from outside the building and said the organisation suffered significant damage in the incident.

Following the incident, a large number of police personnel, along with members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the army, have been deployed in front of the Udichi office to maintain law and order.

The cause of the fire and details of the damage are yet to be officially assessed.
