The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka resumed its regular operations on Thursday, a day after being temporarily closed due to security concerns.

A visit to the centre in the morning found that visa-related services were running as usual.

On Wednesday, several organisations linked to the July mass uprising, under the banner of ‘July Oikya’, announced a “March to the Indian High Commission” programme in Dhaka. In view of the programme and the prevailing security situation, operations at the Jamuna Future Park-based Indian visa centre were suspended from 2pm.

Earlier the same day, nearly two hours before the closure, India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in New Delhi to express deep concern over what it described as the deteriorating security situation in Bangladesh.
