Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has departed for London.
He left the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Wednesday morning.
According to the party, his visit is part of a pre-scheduled programme with a delegation of the British government.
Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Media Department of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said the Ameer left Dhaka in the morning to attend the planned meetings with the UK government.
Following the engagements in London, he is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
If all goes according to schedule, Dr Shafiqur Rahman is expected to return to Bangladesh on 21 December, Zubayer added.
When asked whether the Jamaat Amir would meet BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, during his visit, Zubayer replied, “I have no information regarding that.”
