BNP does not believe in using religion for politics or creating division, and one certain party is not speaking against the ruling Awami League just to gain votes in the upcoming election, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Friday.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the sixth day of BNP’s programme titled “BNP’s Plan to Rebuild the Country” at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital’s Khamarbari area.

Salahuddin said those who tried to engage in political business using the spirit of the Liberation War have ultimately failed.

“It was never right to politicise 1971,” he added.

He urged the nation not to forget what he described as the Awami League’s history of killings and corruption.

He said the BNP wants to move towards the upcoming election with a proper and well-thought-out strategy, not with emotion or unplanned actions.

“The uprising of ’24 is not the outcome of a 36-day movement; it is the cumulative result of 15 and a half years,” he added.

The senior BNP leader said many may feel burdened by the announcement of the election schedule, but they have nonetheless been compelled to welcome it.
