Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin on Sunday briefed Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming national election and the referendum.

The CEC, accompanied by Election Commissioners, met the Chief Adviser at the state guesthouse Jamuna in the evening and shared updates on the overall progress of election arrangements.

Election Commissioners Abdur Rahman El Ma’shud, Tahmida Ahmed, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazl Md Sanaullah, and EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present at the meeting.

National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and the Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary M Siraj Uddin Mia also attended.

During the meeting, the CEC said preparations for the polls were moving ahead smoothly and that the Commission was fully ready to hold the national election and the referendum on the same day in the first half of February.

He expressed gratitude to the Chief Adviser for extending full cooperation to the Election Commission during the preparations. He also conveyed thanks—through the Chief Adviser—to members of the law enforcement agencies and the armed forces for their support.

Nasir Uddin noted that citizens were already participating in election-related activities, creating a nationwide election atmosphere.

Expressing satisfaction over the EC’s progress, the Chief Adviser reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extend all necessary assistance to ensure free and fair elections.

“You (the EC) are in the driving seat for this much-anticipated election. We must reach our desired goal,” he said.

The Chief Adviser reiterated the interim government’s determination to deliver a credible and inclusive election, saying they are moving ahead with the resolve to present the nation with one of the finest elections in its history in early February.
