Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has urged all concerned, including the media, not to create confusion over the announcement of the schedule and date for the upcoming national polls.
Speaking to reporters on Friday evening, the EC secretary said no decision has yet been made regarding the election schedule. “Anyone claiming a date is doing so based on personal assumptions and calculations, which have no official basis,” he said.
He also called on the media to act responsibly in light of the current situation in the country.
Speculation has already surfaced, with some suggesting that the election schedule may be announced on December 11, while others are mentioning February as a possible voting month.
The EC is scheduled to hold a formal meeting on Sunday to discuss matters related to the election schedule.
Meanwhile, the Commission has sought an appointment with President Mohammed Shahabuddin to discuss the schedule. The request was sent on Thursday, seeking a meeting on December 10 or 11.
According to officials, the President has responded, setting 12 pm on December 10 for the meeting.
