BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia remains in a highly critical state at the Evercare Hospital, where doctors have placed her on ventilation due to a severe deterioration in her health, party leaders said on Monday.
BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Aazam Khan told reporters at noon, “Khaleda Zia’s condition is extremely critical. She is in a very deep condition. I don’t want to elaborate further, but you may consider it as ventilation-level critical.”
Earlier in the morning, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The BNP chairperson is severely ill and currently hospitalized. She is under intensive monitoring by both local and foreign specialists. Doctors will brief on her latest medical situation. We urge everyone to pray for her recovery.”
Khaleda Zia was taken to Evercare Hospital Dhaka on the night of 23 November for health evaluations from her Gulshan residence, Firoza. Following the medical board’s recommendation, she was admitted for extensive tests and treatment.
Doctors later confirmed that she had developed a lung infection. Since 27 November, she has been receiving treatment at the hospital’s critical care unit.
The former prime minister has long been suffering from multiple complications, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney and lung issues, and eye-related problems.
