BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s health condition remains critical, with no signs of improvement as she continues to receive treatment at the CCU for the last three days amid multiple complications.
On Saturday, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to people from all walks of life—irrespective of political affiliation—for praying for her recovery.
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas also said Khaleda Zia’s condition “is not stable”.
He rushed to the hospital late Friday night to check on her. Speaking to reporters afterward, he said they tried to speak to her from a distance, and she recognised them, responding to their greetings.
Nearly 80 years old and suffering from multiple illnesses, Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital again on November 23 with lung infection and cardiac complications. A medical board comprising local and foreign specialists is overseeing her treatment in the CCU under strict and continuous monitoring.
In a press statement, Tarique Rahman said the team of doctors—both local and foreign—are providing the highest level of professional and dedicated care. He added that several friendly nations have expressed willingness to offer advanced treatment and any necessary support.
He said, like any son, he has a deep desire to be by his mother’s side during this critical time, but such decisions are not entirely within his control. He hopes the prevailing political situation will soon reach a point where this long wait can end.
BNP has urged party leaders and activists not to crowd in front of the hospital.
Meanwhile, an NCP delegation—Tasnima Jara, Nasiruddin Patwari and Hasnat Abdullah—visited the hospital to inquire about Khaleda Zia’s health.
