Environmental, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said that change in the country is not possible on the basis of doubt and distrust.
She made the remark on Saturday while attending an event in the capital.
The Advisory Council will not be able to achieve anything unless citizens themselves take the initiative for change,” the adviser said.
Referring to recent political movements, Rizwana said the July movement would not have happened if old-style politics had continued. “One cannot accept the old as the rule. Change is not possible if it is built on doubt and distrust.”
Emphasising the need for institutional reform rather than targeting individuals, Rizwana said, “It is the rules that must change, not the people. If the rules are right, the results will follow. We are working to correct those rules.”
The adviser also said that an announcement to protect rivers from pollution would be made soon. “It is not enough to focus on only one source of pollution; the approach must be comprehensive,” she added.
