The National Citizen Party (NCP) has so far sold 1,011 nomination forms ahead of the upcoming national election, the party’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Patwari criticised the interim government, saying it showed “no accountability” regarding the July Charter. While the government attempted to appease political parties through an executive order, it “deceived the public,” he claimed, adding that such a move would not lead to any fundamental reforms.

We wanted to dismantle the fascist structure of 1972, but this order is taking us back to the same constitutional path. After one Hasina, preparations are underway for another Hasina,” he said.

The NCP leader also pointed to ambiguities in the four ‘Yes’ votes proposed in the upcoming referendum. These issues must be clarified before the NCP signs the July Charter, he noted.

The charter may have legal grounds, but it lacks moral legitimacy. Despite good intentions, the government is unable to deliver meaningful reforms due to pressure from two major parties,” he added.

Patwari urged political parties to refrain from turning the reform process into a vote-bank issue, warning that doing so would lead to public rejection.

Regarding nomination sales, he said professionals including doctors, teachers, and Islamic scholars are showing notable interest.

We’ve extended the deadline to September 20 due to the high demand. Our target is to sell 3,000 forms,” he said.

NCP member-secretary Akhtar Hossen also spoke at the event, saying many aspects of the referendum have been left to the discretion of political parties.

We wanted the reforms to be fully implemented,” he added.
