Detectives have arrested two active members of a counterfeit money syndicate and seized a large stash of fake and genuine banknotes from Wari area in the capital.
The arrestees are Nurul Haque, 32, and Saidul Amin, 24.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the development on Sunday night.
He said a team of DB Tejgaon Division conducted a drive at a house in Wari’s Jurain area around 11:50 pm on Saturday, acting on a tip-off that two people were in possession of counterfeit notes there.
During the raid, the detectives arrested Nurul and Saidul and recovered Tk 6 lakh in fake notes, Tk 19.70 lakh in genuine notes, a money-counting machine, two stapling machines, and two packets of stapler pins.
A case was filed with Wari Police Station over the incident.
According to DB officials, the duo had long been involved in producing and circulating counterfeit currency in different markets.
