The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed as “untrue and disrespectful” the recent remarks made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson S M Mahbubul Alam made the statement on Sunday.

The comments made by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus have come to our attention. We believe his remarks are incorrect and not helpful for the relationship between the two countries. Such comments also lack respect for diplomatic norms and courtesy,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with Rahul Joshi, Editor-in-Chief of India’s Network18 Group, Rajnath Singh urged Professor Yunus to be “careful about what he says,” noting that New Delhi does not want “tense relations” with Dhaka.
