The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has suspended the nomination of Kamal Zaman Molla for the Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election.

In a press release on Tuesday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the suspension was due to “unavoidable circumstances.”

Molla had been among the 237 candidates whose names were announced by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday at the party chairman’s office in Gulshan.

The decision comes after violent protests on Monday evening in Shibchar, including road blockades, vandalism, and arson. Supporters of Sazzad Hossain Lovlu Siddiqui, a potential candidate who was not nominated, reacted angrily to Molla’s announcement.
