Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman is preparing to return home after performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia with his family next month.
The information was confirmed on Sunday by BNP Chairperson’s Security Affairs Adviser Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar.
He said Tarique is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia between November 20 and 21 to perform Umrah and will return to London afterward.
When asked about Tarique’s return to Bangladesh, the retired army officer said, “After coming back to London, he will likely fly to Dhaka in late November or early December, though the exact date has not been finalized yet.”
In preparation for his homecoming, the BNP has formed a special security committee. A member of the committee said, “We are preparing comprehensive security arrangements assuming he may return on November 23. All measures are being taken in coordination with government authorities.”
The committee member also mentioned that a bulletproof vehicle is expected to arrive from Japan before Tarique’s return.
Upon his arrival, Tarique is expected to stay at House No. 196 on Avenue Road, Gulshan-2 — the residence originally allotted to his mother and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by the then government following the death of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman in 1981.
