BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the interim government to immediately assume the role of a caretaker administration during the election period.

He made the remarks on Tuesday evening at the State Guest House Jamuna following a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Fakhrul said, “Before the elections, it is necessary to give the people the assurance that the administration will remain neutral.”

He also demanded the removal of those in the Secretariat whom he described as “fascist associates,” stating, “These associates must be removed from the administration as well.”

On the judiciary, Fakhrul called for the removal of individuals he termed as supporters of autocracy, adding, “Although this is a matter for the judiciary, since Dr Yunus is the Chief Adviser, he should take initiative on this issue.”

Fakhrul emphasised that the interim government must remain impartial, particularly in relation to police appointments, promotions, and new recruitments.

Earlier, after 6:00 pm, a BNP delegation led by Fakhrul met with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna. Other members of the delegation included BNP Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed.
