A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and may intensify into a depression before potentially developing into a cyclonic storm, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Friday.
In a special weather bulletin, the Met Office advised fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.
The low may intensify into a depression or a cyclonic storm,” Meteorologist Omar Faruk confirmed.
Asked whether the system might affect Bangladesh, he said its current trajectory is towards India’s Andhra Pradesh. “Later, a portion of the system might move towards Bangladesh over land. As a result, there is a possibility of light, scattered rainfall in the western parts of the country around October 29,” he added.
In its regular morning bulletin, the BMD said rain or thundershowers may occur at one or two places in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions over the next 24 hours, while elsewhere the weather is likely to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.
During this period, both day and night temperatures across the country may fall slightly, according to the forecast.
Over the past 24 hours, the country’s highest temperature was recorded in Feni at 36.2 degrees Celsius, while the lowest was 20.1 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, Panchagarh.
