Broadcast services relying on Bangladesh Satellite-1 may face temporary disruption each day from 29 September to 6 October due to solar interference.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Omar Haider, Public Relations Spokesperson of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL).

According to the notice, solar interference is a common astronomical phenomenon affecting geo-stationary satellites twice a year.

As a result, satellite-based broadcast activities may experience short interruptions. For Bangladesh Satellite-1, such disruptions are expected daily during the specified period.

The possible schedule of disruptions is as follows:

29 September: 9:35 am to 9:38 am (3 minutes)

30 September: 9:32 am to 9:41 am (9 minutes)

1 October: 9:30 am to 9:42 am (12 minutes)

2 October: 9:29 am to 9:42 am (13 minutes)

3 October: 9:29 am to 9:42 am (13 minutes)

4 October: 9:29 am to 9:41 am (12 minutes)

5 October: 9:29 am to 9:40 am (11 minutes)

6 October: 9:30 am to 9:38 am (8 minutes)

BSCL added that it would closely monitor the interference throughout this period. The company currently provides broadcasting and telecommunication services to a range of domestic and international organisations through Bangladesh’s first satellite, Bangladesh Satellite-1 (BS-1).
