The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices again, setting a new record in the country’s history.
The price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 2,718 per bhori, bringing it to Tk 181,550, according to a BAJUS press release issued on Sunday night. The new rate will take effect from Monday (Sept 8).
BAJUS said the hike was due to an increase in the price of pure gold in the local market.
As per the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 173,304 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 148,541, and traditional gold at Tk 123,067 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The release also mentioned that buyers will have to pay an additional 5% government-set VAT along with a 6% minimum making charge fixed by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality.
Earlier on Sept 3, BAJUS adjusted prices by raising Tk 3,044 per bhori, setting the 22-carat gold price at Tk 178,832, then the highest in the country’s history.
