Bangladesh from Tuesday began exporting hilsa to India, with the government permitting 37 local companies to ship a total of 1,200 metric tons ahead of Durga Puja.
The Ministry of Commerce issued the approval through an office order signed by Deputy Secretary SHM Magfurul Hasan Abbasi.
According to the order, Arif Sea Foods received the highest quota of 50 metric tons, while the other companies were allowed to export 30–40 metric tons each.
Several conditions were attached to the approval, including compliance with the Export Policy 2024–27. The export window will remain open from September 16 to October 5, and exporters cannot exceed their allocated quotas.
Customs authorities will strictly examine consignments to ensure compliance, while exporters applying for future approvals must submit proof of actual export performance against previous permits.
Each shipment will be verified under the ASYCUDA World System to prevent over-export. The approval is non-transferable, and exporters are prohibited from subcontracting the permits.
The ministry also reserved the right to cancel the approval at any time if necessary.
