Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel has dissolved parliament and announced fresh elections on March 5, following a week of violent anti-graft protests that left over 50 people dead and forced former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to resign.The announcement came late Friday, hours after Paudel named former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the country’s interim prime minister, making her Nepal’s first woman to hold the post.According to the president’s office, the decision followed two days of intense negotiations with army chief Ashok Raj Sigdel and leaders of the so-called “Gen Z”-led protest movement, which triggered the worst unrest in years.
