Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75, according to reports by several Indian media outlets citing news agency ANI.

The Economic Times, Navbharat Times and LiveMint reported the news on Thursday morning, citing ANI. The report was also carried by NDTV, Hindustan Times and The Times of India.

The Economic Times, quoting Dr Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, reported that doctors attempted to revive Patekar for around 45 minutes after he was brought to the hospital. He was given continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but did not respond.

A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, the report said. An autopsy will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

According to NDTV, Patekar was taken to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was 75.

Reports by several Indian media outlets said Patekar was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, and was subsequently rushed to a nearby Manipal Hospital. He was declared dead at 5:20am.

Hindustan Times, citing local media reports, said Patekar’s son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed his father’s death.

Born on 1 January 1951 in Maharashtra, Patekar’s real name was Vishwanath Patekar. Over several decades in Hindi and Marathi cinema, he established a distinctive identity through his acting style and delivery of dialogue.

Patekar appeared in numerous popular films, including Parinda, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, Agnisakshi and Welcome. He won the National Film Award three times and was conferred the Padma Shri by the government of India in 2013.
