India's Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday following days of intensifying nationwide student protests over alleged examination paper leaks and demands for accountability, marking the first major political concession by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in the ongoing crisis. 

Pradhan announced his resignation in a post on social media platform X, saying he was stepping down amid the escalating unrest. The move came as protests continued across several Indian cities, with demonstrators accusing the government of failing to curb recurring examination irregularities. 

The protests, led largely by students and youth groups, have focused on alleged leaks of major entrance examination papers, particularly the NEET medical entrance test. Protesters have demanded sweeping reforms to the examination system and accountability from senior officials. 

Pradhan's resignation followed weeks of mounting political pressure and came shortly after police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators in New Delhi ahead of talks between protest leaders and government representatives. 

The resignation is seen as a significant victory for the student movement, which has emerged as one of the strongest public challenges to Modi's government in recent years. The federal government has yet to announce Pradhan's successor.
