Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening good governance, transparency and accountability in the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, with its Human Resources Ministry pledging to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure a more orderly and fair recruitment system.
Malaysian Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan made the remarks in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday.
The statement said the initiative aligns with the shared commitment of Malaysia and Bangladesh to ensure that labour recruitment processes remain free from exploitation, discrimination and unethical practices.
Ramanan said Bangladesh, as one of Malaysia’s key sources of migrant workers, plays a significant role in supporting the economic growth of both countries.
He stressed the need to further enhance governance in the recruitment process, strengthen worker welfare and promote ethical recruitment practices.
The minister said closer cooperation with Bangladesh in the field of human resource management would not only safeguard the welfare, safety and rights of workers but also help meet Malaysia’s labour market needs in a sustainable and responsible manner.
Earlier on Monday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held bilateral talks, during which both leaders agreed to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) to ensure that labour migration from Bangladesh to Malaysia continues in a safe, orderly and mutually beneficial manner.
The JWG will review the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and serve as a basis for formulating a new agreement aligned with the current needs and priorities of both countries.
