Iran has launched missile attacks targeting United States military bases in several Middle Eastern countries in response to what it described as Israeli and American military aggression.

The strikes have prompted swift and strong reactions from governments across the region.

Bahrain confirmed that its territory had been targeted, describing the attack as a “clear violation” of the country’s sovereignty and security. Authorities labelled the incident a “treacherous assault”, warning that it posed a direct threat to national security and the safety of citizens and residents.

The United Arab Emirates said it had been targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles, adding that its air defence systems successfully intercepted several projectiles.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported that debris from a missile fell in a residential area of Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage. One foreign national was killed in the incident.

The UAE strongly condemned the attack, stating that targeting civilian facilities, infrastructure and national institutions is entirely unacceptable. It described the strike as a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act that threatens civilian safety and regional stability.

The statement further asserted that the attack constituted a clear violation of national sovereignty and international law. The UAE said it reserves the right to take necessary measures to protect its territory and affirmed that it remains fully prepared to address any threats.

Saudi Arabia also condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. In an official statement, Riyadh said it denounces the strikes “in the strongest terms”.

It warned that continued violations of state sovereignty and the principles of international law could have “serious consequences”.

The escalation comes amid indirect talks between Washington and Tehran over the nuclear issue. Early on Saturday (28 February), Israel launched strikes on Tehran.

According to reports, more than 30 locations were targeted in joint US-Israeli attacks, including the residence of the Iranian president. The strikes are said to be ongoing.

Within hours, Iran launched retaliatory attacks against Israel. It also targeted US military installations across the region.

The reported targets included Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
