French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has plunged to an all-time low of just 11%, according to a new poll by Le Figaro, marking the lowest point of his presidency and equaling the record low once held by Francois Hollande.

The poll, conducted by the Verian Group among a thousand respondents, found Macron’s popularity has fallen to the same level as Hollande’s in late 2016 — just before he announced he would not seek re-election.

Macron narrowly escaped impeachment earlier this month amid accusations that he is responsible for France’s deepening political turmoil. His government has struggled without a parliamentary majority for two years, following his decision to dissolve the National Assembly in June 2024 after his coalition’s defeat in the European Parliament elections — a gamble that backfired and led to a hung parliament.

Since taking office in 2017, Macron has seen seven prime ministers resign, including Edouard Philippe, Jean Castex, Elisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal, Michel Barnier, and Francois Bayrou. The current prime minister, Sebastien Lecornu, was reappointed after briefly resigning in October amid divisions over the government’s budget plan to rein in France’s mounting debt.

Macron’s approval has been in free fall throughout 2025, dropping from 21% in January to 15% last month, with 80% of respondents saying they no longer trust him.

Analysts say the record-low rating underscores a presidency “on the verge of collapse,” as political paralysis and public discontent deepen across France.
