Tech billionaire Elon Musk has claimed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robots will eventually take over all jobs. However, he insists that humans will not actually need to work and can instead grow vegetables if they wish to.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming society, taking over tasks that once required human input. This has fuelled growing fears that AI could soon replace humans in the workplace — fears that are not unfounded, as major companies such as TCS and Accenture have already laid off thousands of employees.

Now, Musk has asserted that AI will indeed replace every job, but he believes this development will ultimately give humans more freedom.

Musk made his remarks in response to a post on X that cited a report about Amazon’s plans to replace workers with AI and robots. The American tech giant reportedly intends to cut over 1,60,000 jobs by 2027 as part of this automation drive. In his reply, Musk was direct, writing: “AI and robots will replace all jobs.”

While such a statement might sound alarming, especially coming from someone with Musk’s deep insight into the future of technology, he also offered a more optimistic perspective.

According to Musk, this shift could liberate people from the necessity of daily work. “Working will be optional, like growing your own vegetables, instead of buying them from the store,” he explained.

Musk himself is spearheading efforts in AI through his company xAI, which is developing an AI-only software platform named Macrohard. Meanwhile, Tesla continues to advance its humanoid robot project, Optimus.

The fear surrounding AI-driven job losses largely stems from the human dependence on income for survival. However, Musk envisions a future where this concern no longer exists. In a separate comment, he suggested that AI would make working “optional” for humans.

Besides, the tech billionaire predicted that the world would move towards a state of “universal high income”. Essentially, Musk believes that when AI eventually takes over all jobs, humans will still enjoy high income levels that allow them to sustain their lifestyles — even without traditional employment.
