BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has termed the signing of the July National Charter as “the beginning of a new chapter in the political history of Bangladesh.”
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on Friday afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The commissions formed by the interim government have worked tirelessly for about eight months, and today, through the signing of this charter, a new chapter has indeed begun in Bangladesh’s political history.”
He expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank and extend my sincere appreciation to Professor Muhammad Yunus, all political parties, members of the National Consensus Commission who worked tirelessly, and those who led and contributed to the Reform Commission— including our party’s Salahuddin Ahmed and members from all parties.”
Earlier, at 4:37 pm, the formal ceremony of signing the July National Charter began with the national anthem at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building. Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus arrived at the venue shortly before the event commenced.
In his address, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus said, “With the signing of the July National Charter, we have struck a chord of unity. We will move toward the election with that spirit of unity. Those who signed today may sit together again if necessary to decide how to ensure a fair election. There’s no benefit in holding a makeshift election.”
