National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz has said that any political party failing to sign the much-anticipated National July Charter 2025 on Friday (October 17) will be able to do so later.

He made the remarks at a press conference on Thursday (October 16) at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, organised to brief the media on preparations for Friday’s signing ceremony of the National July Charter 2025.

We are looking forward to tomorrow’s event and hope that all parties will join and sign the charter. Despite differences in opinion, we expect everyone’s participation,” said Prof Riaz.

He added that the commission would present specific recommendations to the government for the implementation of the charter, expressing optimism that the government would take necessary steps within the commission’s tenure.

Calling on all political parties, forces, and citizens to join the event, Prof Riaz said, “Tomorrow’s ceremony will be festive; all preparations have been completed. Political parties will sign first, followed by commission members, and finally, the Chief Adviser.”

Emphasising the need for a legal framework for the July Charter, he said, “The commission believes this is essential. Our recommendations will include a proposal to provide the charter with legal status.”

Prof Riaz also expressed hope that the National Citizen Party (NCP) would attend the event, sign the charter, and play a significant role in its implementation.

Regarding the signing schedule, he noted, “We prefer that all parties sign tomorrow. However, if any political party wishes to sign later, they will be allowed to do so.”

The long-awaited National July Charter 2025 signing ceremony will take place on Friday at 4 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Chief Adviser and National Consensus Commission Chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus is expected to attend the event, along with several advisers and senior government officials.
