Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has arrived in Rome, the capital of Italy, on a four-day official visit.
He landed at Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport around 5 pm local time on Sunday, where Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy ATM Rokebul Haque received him.
Earlier in the day, a Bangladesh Biman flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Rome around 11:30 am, according to the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office.
As per his itinerary, Prof Yunus will deliver a speech as an invited guest at the main session of the World Food Forum. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and heads of several international organizations.
The discussions are expected to focus on global issues including food security, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
The World Food Forum, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), serves as a global platform bringing together policymakers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas on the future of the world’s food systems. This year’s event is taking place at the FAO headquarters in Rome from October 10 to 17.
Prof Yunus’s visit is being viewed as an important step reflecting Bangladesh’s proactive diplomatic engagement on the global stage.
He is scheduled to return home on October 15.
