Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has claimed that three superpowers are currently attempting to exert aggression over the country.
He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon at Dhaka University’s TSC auditorium during a discussion organised by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal to mark the sixth death anniversary of BUET student Abrar Fahad.
Salahuddin said, “Speaking out against India’s aggression used to cost lives. Abrar Fahad’s life was taken as a warning so that no one would speak against them. At present, three superpowers are attempting aggression against our country. Among them, two are regional powers and one is a global giant.”
Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added that due to leaders described as “submissive”, superpowers have been able to pursue political hegemony and aggression in Bangladesh.
Salahuddin stressed the need to set a precedent in national politics and called for competing in the political arena through talent, integrity, and good leadership.
During the discussion, Chhatra Dal leaders alleged that a secretive organisation was operating within the leadership of the ruling Awami League’s student wing during Abrar Fahad’s murder.
They claimed that Jamaat leader Shishir Monir is attempting to protect the convicts from capital punishment and vowed to expose such covert activities to ordinary students.
Abrar Fahad, a second-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at BUET, was brutally murdered on October 6, 2019 by members of the ruling party’s student wing for posting on Facebook about the Bangladesh-India Assam Agreement and alleged water-related aggression.
