BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has shed light on his much-discussed meeting with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, held in London last June.

The two reportedly engaged in an extensive conversation covering a range of issues, though details of their discussion had remained largely undisclosed until now.

In the second part of his exclusive interview with BBC Bangla, published on Tuesday (7 October), Tarique Rahman spoke about the meeting, along with broader topics including BNP’s political transformation, relations with India, engagement with the interim government, and ongoing reform initiatives.

Referring to the meeting with Dr Yunus, Tarique Rahman described it as a courteous and constructive exchange.

Dr Yunus is a renowned and highly respected individual. We had a cordial conversation. He asked me what steps we would take for the country and its people if given the opportunity to serve,” Tarique Rahman said.

He added that their discussion centred on ideas and aspirations for Bangladesh’s future.

We talked about the people of our country, our thoughts and plans for them, and what we want to achieve for their betterment,” the BNP leader said.

While Tarique Rahman did not elaborate further on the details, his comments mark the first public acknowledgment of the nature of the London meeting, which has sparked widespread speculation in political circles.

The interview offers a rare glimpse into his current political outlook as BNP navigates a shifting political landscape under the interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr Yunus.
