The local administration has withdrawn Section 144 in Khagrachhari after a week as the law and order situation improved.

According to the district administration office, the restriction will no longer remain in force in Khagrachhari municipality and sadar upazila from 6am on Sunday.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate ABM Ifethkarul Islam Khandakar issued the order withdrawing Section 144 on Saturday night.

Earlier, the Jumma Students and People’s banner announced an indefinite road blockade demanding exemplary punishment for the rape of a Marma teenage girl.

In apprehension of deterioration in law and order, Section 144 was imposed in Khagrachhari sadar and Guimara upazilas from the morning of September 28.

The restriction had remained in force for a week.
