At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the activists of BNP and Jamaat in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur on Friday morning over sharing a ‘distorted photo’ of two central BNP leaders on Facebook.

The incident took place at Palishara village in Gandharbapur North union of the upazila. The injured were admitted to Hajiganj Upazila Health Complex and Chandpur General Hospital.

Kazi Jasim, former member-secretary of the upazila unit Jubo Dal, alleged that on Thursday night, union Jamaat Amir Ilias Hossain shared distorted photos of BNP leaders from his personal Facebook account. When BNP men went to ask him about it on Friday morning, Jamaat activists suddenly attacked them.

Union Jubo Dal leader Nesar Ahmed claimed that at least five of their activists were injured in the attack.

However, Jamaat leaders rejected the allegation and came up with a counterclaim.

Hajiganj upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Mozammel Hossain said although Ilias deleted the post and expressed regret, BNP men launched an attack on him, leaving 10–12 of their activists injured while resisting.

Echoing the same, Ilias said the photo was shared from his personal account “unintentionally” and he removed it later with an apology.

Contacted, Hajiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Mohiuddin Faruq said they received information that 8–9 people were injured in a clash between BNP and Jamaat men.

However, no one has filed any complaint yet. Legal steps will be taken if a complaint is lodged,” he added.
