Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today called on citizens of all faiths to unite in building the nation, asserting that every religious community in Bangladesh holds equal rights.
Speaking at a Sharadiya greetings event at the Radha Govinda Temple (Dharmasabha) during a visit to Rangpur city, the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s history of communal harmony.
He noted that people of all religions fought together during the 1971 Liberation War, stood up to defend democracy in times of crisis, and joined hands in the 2024 student-led mass uprising that ended autocratic rule.
"For thousands of years, this country has moved forward with people of all religions living together in peace. Just as we have coexisted peacefully for a millennium, we wish to live together in harmony for the next thousand years," PM Rahman said, urging all communities to work together for national development.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was welcomed with traditional rituals and a dance performance by young children. He met worshippers, handed over a cheque of Tk 10 lakh to the temple committee, and instructed the State Minister for Public Administration to look into financial support for constructing a hostel on the temple grounds.
Key Highlights:
* Inclusivity & Governance: The Prime Minister affirmed that the government serves all citizens equally, regardless of voting outcomes, promising equitable development across every region.
* Development Allocations: He highlighted the recent ECNEC approval of Tk 1,800 crore for Rangpur city's development and promised incremental infrastructure improvements across rural areas.
* National Stability: PM Rahman cautioned against factions trying to stir confusion or politicise the 2024 uprising, urging all political discussions and debates to take place within Parliament rather than disrupting public life.
* Welfare Initiatives: On his route from Saidpur Airport—where he addressed roadside rallies in Taraganj and Paglapir—he reaffirmed key welfare measures, including agricultural loan waivers up to Tk 10,000, family cards, farmer cards, and monthly allowances for religious leaders of all faiths.
The event, conducted by State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, was attended by senior cabinet ministers, local MPs, and party leaders. The visit marked Tarique Rahman’s first official tour to Rangpur since taking office following the 13th Parliamentary Election.
