Armed men set fire to a bus and fired shots in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Friday morning, officials said, in what is believed to be an internal dispute within the transport company.

The incident took place at Senpara in Mirpur-10 when passengers were evacuated from a bus operated by Alif Transport, said officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station Md Abdullah Al Mamun.

Three individuals stopped the bus under Metro Rail’s 266th pillar around morning. Two of them boarded the vehicle, forced the passengers to disembark, and set the bus on fire. The third assailant fired through a window before fleeing the scene,” the OC said.

He added that the attack was a result of internal conflicts within Alif Transport, with one faction targeting the other’s bus. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings regarding the incident.

Rashed Bin Khalid, duty officer of the Fire Service, said two units from the Mirpur Fire Station arrived promptly and brought the blaze under control within a short period.

No casualties have been reported so far. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
