Three inspirational individuals who have set remarkable examples in society through their work and personal initiatives met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday.

Nayla Sharaf, a BUET graduate who chose to become a primary school teacher; Md Altaf Hossain, who established a school despite having no hands; and Rezaul Kibria Babul, who has planted thousands of trees through his own initiative, met the Prime Minister at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

They were visibly moved by the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister, who listened attentively to their life struggles, exceptional initiatives and activities for the welfare of society. He praised their contributions and assured them of necessary support.

“People like you are greatly needed to build the country. If everyone comes forward like you, nation-building will become easier,” the Prime Minister said.

During the meeting, Nayla Sharaf’s unconventional career choice came into focus. After graduating from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), she joined the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) as an assistant engineer. She later worked as an officer at Janata Bank.

Despite qualifying for the 34th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), she chose not to join government service and instead dedicated herself to teaching children.

Nayla has been teaching at Panchananpur Government Primary School in Netrokona for the past seven years. She has also developed her own teaching materials and digital content to make learning easier, particularly for underprivileged children.

Another inspirational figure who met the Prime Minister was Md Altaf Hossain of Narsingdi. Born without both hands, he refused to let his physical limitations stand in the way of his ambitions.

After learning to write with his feet, he established Protibha Dukhhu Mia Kindergarten School in Panchdona, Narsingdi, in 2007. He built the school using his personal savings and money raised by selling ancestral land.

The institution now has 145 students and 10 teachers. Altaf continues to write with his feet and manage various activities of the school.

After listening to his story, the Prime Minister assured him that a new school building would be constructed for the institution.

Meanwhile, Rezaul Kibria Babul of Char Fasson in Bhola has set an example through his long-standing efforts to promote tree plantation. Alongside his work as a mosque imam, he has spent nearly three decades planting thousands of trees along roads using his own money and labour.

After selling ancestral property to establish a nursery, he began planting saplings produced there in different areas. Many of the trees he planted have now grown large, providing shade for pedestrians.

The Prime Minister praised each of the three individuals for their initiatives, stressing that people who work for the welfare of society and the country through personal efforts play a highly important role.

He said such initiatives would also encourage others to come forward and engage in good works.

The Prime Minister encouraged them to continue their activities and assured them of his support.
