Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged children to show kindness to all living creatures and care for nature and the environment, stressing that these values, alongside education and extracurricular activities, are essential to becoming good human beings.
He made the remarks while addressing children at a programme marking Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy at the academy premises today.
The Prime Minister said children should take part in sports, music, Quran recitation and cultural activities alongside their studies.
The Prime Minister’s wife and Vice-Chairman of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Dr Zubaida Rahman, attended the programme, chaired by Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
The programme began with the national anthem after children welcomed the Prime Minister on his arrival.
Tarique Rahman enjoyed cultural performances by children before exchanging greetings and posing for photographs with the young performers.
He also answered their questions, while children from different parts of the country spoke to him through a video conference.
Later, he visited an exhibition of children’s artwork and a photo gallery at the Children’s Museum building. He also inaugurated a solar panel system and a substation on the ground floor of the building.
Earlier, children presented him with a commemorative gift, and he unveiled a special souvenir titled "Shaishab" (Childhood).
The theme of this year’s programme was “Let Every Child’s Future Be Secure”.
