Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Local Government Division to work in close coordination to expedite the construction of the Inner Circular Ring Road to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka.
The directive came at a meeting held on Sunday at the Prime Minister’s Office under the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat to review progress on the project. The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister.
At the meeting, Tarique Rahman instructed the two ministries to jointly review the existing project plan and take necessary steps to accelerate construction.
He emphasised the need to identify and promptly remove existing obstacles to project implementation, ensure effective coordination among the relevant agencies and set a realistic timeframe for completing the work.
The Prime Minister also called for tangible progress on the project to be achieved swiftly.
Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam; State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib; Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam; and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton attended the meeting.
Senior officials from the relevant ministries and divisions were also present.
