Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban.

It was the first meeting between the President and the Prime Minister at Bangabhaban since the President assumed office.

The Prime Minister arrived at Bangabhaban at around 3:00 pm and was received by the President. 

The President later introduced the Prime Minister to the Military Secretary to the President, the Secretary, the Press Secretary and other senior officials of the office.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President on his recent visit to the United States, the United Nations General Assembly session, and meetings on the sidelines with heads of state and government of various countries, the UN Secretary-General and senior officials and senior representatives of international economic and development partner institutions.

The President extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Prime Minister for his historic speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). 

He described the speech as "visionary, resolute and directional".

The President said the speech reflected the national interests and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh and clearly articulated Bangladesh's position on important global issues. 

He further said the visit has played an important role in further consolidating and strengthening Bangladesh's position on the international stage and in safeguarding public interest, besides making a significant contribution to expanding and strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations.

They also discussed various issues of national and state interest.

The President expressed sincere thanks to the Prime Minister for visiting Bangabhaban.
