There is no prospect of lifting the ban on the Awami League’s political activities in the near future, according to Asif Nazrul, legal advisor to the caretaker government.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday afternoon after visiting the Shankar Math puja mandap in Barishal city, Nazrul said that measures have even been taken to pursue accountability against the party at the International Criminal Court.

He assured that devotees across the country are celebrating the Durga Puja festival peacefully. “Despite attempts by dark forces to create unrest, the government has remained vigilant,” he said, adding that action will be taken against those attempting to destabilise the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

Responding to a separate question, Nazrul clarified recent remarks made by the chief advisor regarding the possible lifting of the Awami League ban in front of foreign journalists.“

Those comments were purely theoretical. There is no plan to take such a step before the upcoming election or in the foreseeable future,” he stated.
