The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued local cautionary signal No. 3 for all seaports as a well-marked low over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has intensified, creating pressure differences over the northern Bay.
According to a special weather bulletin released on Wednesday morning, the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
The bulletin also instructed all fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay not to venture into deep sea. Instead, they have been asked to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
The Met office warned that under the influence of the well-marked low, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by squally or stormy winds is likely to lash the northern Bay, coastal regions of Bangladesh, and adjoining seaports.
Meteorologists further noted that the situation could worsen if the system continues to intensify, urging authorities and coastal residents to remain alert.
