The results of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and hall union elections will be announced by Tuesday night, said Chief Returning Officer Prof Mohammad Jasim Uddin.

Speaking to reporters, he explained that vote counting is underway with OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) machines, but the process is taking longer than expected.

“Some centers are ahead in counting while some are lagging behind,” he said.

Prof Jasim said votes are being counted simultaneously across all centers in a transparent manner.

“Although it is not possible to give an exact time, the results will certainly be declared by tonight,” he assured.

Explaining the delay, the chief returning officer said, “Since Ducsu ballot papers have five sheets, each has to be separated before feeding them into the machine. As soon as a box is opened, the ballots must first be sorted. This is the main reason why the process is taking extra time.”
