State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid today said no significant development took place in the country's sports sector during fascist regime.
"During the fascist regime, Bangladesh fell far behind in sports due to nepotism, corruption and irregularities," he said while addressing the prize-giving ceremony after the final match of the Gold Cup Football Tournament at Munsinagar Pragati Sangha ground in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka today.
He said the current government is working to develop the country's lagging sports sector by ensuring necessary patronage, transparency and accountability.
The final of the Gold Cup Football Tournament, organized by Munsinagar Pragati Sangha, was contested between Roman Sporting Club (Shankarkhali) and Madan Khali Friends Club (Madan Khali).
The match ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time. As neither side could break the deadlock during extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Madan Khali Friends Club won 7-6 on penalties.
