Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, today called for building a discrimination-free Bangladesh free from imperialism and hegemony, urging all to remain steadfast in upholding the spirit of the July Mass Uprising.

"While fighting against fascism, those who embraced martyrdom and those who were injured deserve our deepest respect. We remember them with profound reverence on the anniversary of the Borsha Biplab (Monsoon Revolution)," he said.

The Acting Speaker made the remarks while addressing a cultural programme titled "Songs of the Monsoon Revolution" as the chief guest at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital, organised marking the Victory Day of the July Mass Uprising.

He said the nation must remain firmly committed to building a discrimination-free Bangladesh free from imperialism and hegemonic influence, said a press release of parliament secretariat.

Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam, MP, Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam, MP, and Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan, MP, attended the programme as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam said the nation must not deviate from the ideals of the victory achieved through the uprising.

"We must ensure that the dreams of the young generation are never trampled upon again," he said, adding that the spirit of the Monsoon Revolution should be cherished in the hearts of the people.

Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan said the nation must remain united in the face of any national crisis and stay vigilant to prevent the rise of fascism in the future.

Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam said the struggle for building a discrimination-free Bangladesh must continue. He also paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the July uprising.

Leaders of the NCP, including its Convener and Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah, also addressed the programme, expressing their firm commitment to building a transformed Bangladesh above all differences and divisions.
