All government agencies have been asked to prepare proposals for further energy-saving measures
The government is exploring measures to ease pressure on the domestic fuel market and promote energy conservation, including the possibility of increasing weekly holidays for government officials and employees.
A final decision on this is expected following discussions at the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Sources indicate that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led to a significant global fuel supply shortage. With new supplies dwindling, the government is reportedly considering drawing on existing reserves to manage the situation.
Preliminary discussions are also underway on adjusting office hours or introducing work-from-home programs to reduce electricity consumption, although no formal decision has been taken yet.
All government agencies have been asked to prepare proposals for further energy-saving measures. These proposals will be presented at the upcoming Cabinet meeting, where decisions regarding weekly holidays and office schedules are likely to be finalized after detailed deliberations.
To reduce fuel consumption in the transport sector and ease traffic congestion, the government is also exploring partial online classes in educational institutions. Special focus is being given to minimizing student commutes in major cities as a way to conserve fuel.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued 11 special directives for government officials and employees. Letters regarding the directives were sent to divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners (DCs), and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs). The directives emphasize conserving electricity and fuel while maintaining clean and tidy office spaces.
