A cabinet meeting began at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

The meeting started around 4:30pm at the Cabinet Division, said the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur  Rahman  Rumon.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister chaired a special meeting to determine necessary steps to address the fuel situation amid rising global oil prices triggered by the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Energy and Power Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Husin, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid, Civil Aviation Minister Afroza Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, among others, attended the meeting.

Senior secretaries and officials of the relevant ministries were also present.

Besides, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, the Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser ATM Shamsul Islam and Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman also held a  meeting with the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also chaired another meeting to determine steps for modernising the silk industry, attended by Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister Shariful Alam and senior officials concerned.
