The High Court has granted bail to former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy in five separate cases.
The order was delivered on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher.
Dr Ivy was arrested from her residence in West Dewbhog, Narayanganj, on 9 May last year in connection with a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement. She has been in custody since her arrest. Subsequently, police added four more cases against her under the category of 'shown arrest'.
The cases include the murders of bus driver Abul Hosen Mizi, Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin, and Parvez, as well as a case concerning attacks on police and obstruction of official duties.
In the first four cases, the families of the deceased filed complaints at Fatulla Model Police Station. According to case documents, the victims, of varying ages, were shot during the anti-discrimination movement in July 2024 at the Dhaka–Narayanganj highway and in the Bhuigord and Delpara areas.
The fifth case was filed at Sadar Model Police Station with police as complainants. On 8 May, police conducted an operation at Dr Ivy’s residence, 'Chunka Kutir', during which bricks and stones were thrown at police vehicles, and a cocktail explosion occurred.
Consequently, police filed this case on 12 May. Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its allied organisations, who support Dr Ivy, were also named as accused in the case.
